Overview: The South Carolina Appellate Court Public Index is a public access site for the South Carolina Appellate Court Case Management System. This site provides access to information regarding cases filed with the Supreme Court of South Carolina and the South Carolina Court of Appeals. On this site, a user is able to view events and other basic case information relating to those cases. Further, in most cases, the documents associated with an event in the case are available for viewing. The ability to search for and review information contained in the public index is a free public service.
Cases, events and documents that are non-public, sealed or confidential are not available for public viewing on this site. However, certain cases, events or documents that are not available online may be available for public viewing at the courthouse.
Recent entries made in a case by the Clerk of Court’s office may not be immediately reflected on the public index. While court staff updates case information daily and makes every effort to enter case information in a timely manner, there are occasional delays between receiving documents and entry of case information into the Appellate Court Case Management System. To verify information obtained from this site or to obtain case information not available on this site, please contact the Clerk of Court's office of the appropriate court.
Cases Available: At the present time, the following case types are available on the South Carolina Appellate Court Public Index:- Appeals from the Court of Common Pleas.
- Appeals from the Court of General Sessions.
- Appeals from Administrative Tribunals such as the Administrative Law Court and the Workers' Compensation Commission.
- Certiorari proceedings relating to the decisions of the Board of State Canvassers.
- Certiorari proceedings to review decisions of the South Carolina Court of Appeals (excluding Family Court cases).
- Certiorari proceedings in Post-Conviction Relief Cases (excluding Family Court Cases).
- Certification of Questions of Law by a federal court or state appellate court.
Information on a case will generally only be available if the case was pending or filed on or after May 1, 2012. Information regarding events and their associated documents will generally not be available for events that occurred prior to May 1, 2012.
Over time, the South Carolina Judicial Department intends to increase the types of cases that are available and to provide information on cases that were concluded prior to May 1, 2012. The ultimate goal is to provide web-based access which will approach the level of access available to the public at the courthouse.

Personal Identifying Information Privacy Protection and Personal Data Identifiers: Pursuant to S.C. Code Ann. §30-2-330, the following notice is provided about filings in the South Carolina Appellate Court Case Management System:
"A person preparing or filing a document for recordation or filing in the official records may not include a social security, driver's license, state identification, passport, checking account, savings account, credit card, or debit card number, or personal identification (PIN) code, or passwords in the document, unless expressly required by law. An individual has a right to request a register of deeds or clerk of court to remove, from an image or copy of an official record placed on a publicly available Internet web site or on a publicly available Internet web site used by a register of deeds or clerk of court to display public records, any social security, driver's license, state identification, passport, checking account, savings account, credit card, or debit card number, or personal identification (PIN) code, or passwords contained in an official record. The request must be made in writing and delivered by mail, facsimile, or electronic transmission or in person, to the register of deeds or clerk of court. The request must specify the identification page number that contains the social security, driver's license, state identification, passport, checking account, savings account, credit card, debit card number, or personal identification (PIN) code, or passwords to be redacted. There is no fee for the redaction pursuant to request."
Additionally, the inclusion of social security numbers, names of minor children, financial account numbers, home addresses of certain persons, and dates of birth is further restricted by Order of the Supreme Court dated April 15, 2014, entitled "Revised Order Concerning Personal Identifying Information and Other Sensitive Information in Appellate Court Filings."
Any request for redaction of improperly included personal information or identifiers should be addressed to the Clerk of Court's office of the appropriate court.
