Judge Sprouse grew up in Greenville County, where he has a number of relatives.  He attended Clemson University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science in December of 1985.  He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1989.

In addition to the South Carolina Bar and the Oconee County Bar, he was a member of several professional organizations including the American Association for Justice, the South Carolina Association for Justice and the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association.  He also was admitted to practice in Federal District Court for the District of South Carolina.

He began work in the Fall of 1989 as an associate with an insurance defense firm.  Moving to Oconee County in April of 1990, he began a long career in general private practice.  He joined the firm of Ross, Stoudemire, Ballenger and Sprouse in July of 1992.  The firm name eventually became Stoudemire and Sprouse, but his office and practice remained the same.  He represented clients in a wide variety of civil and criminal matters in state courts.  He also was City Attorney for the City of Westminster for over twenty years.

His judicial experience began as a Hearing Officer for the South Carolina Alcohol Beverage Control Commission in 1993 and 1994.  He was appointed Municipal Judge for the City of Walhalla in 1996 and Municipal Judge for the Town of Salem in 2011.  He served in both capacities until taking the circuit bench.  He was elected on May 28, 2014 to the Circuit Court, Seat Two, Tenth Judicial Circuit, to fill the unexpired term of Judge Alexander S. Macaulay, retired.

He is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Walhalla, South Carolina, where he serves as a Sunday School teacher for an adult class.  Previously, he served three terms on Church Council. He was a member of the Seneca Sertoma Club from 1990 through 2009.  He coached youth basketball and baseball for the City of Walhalla Recreation Department for many years, winning several championships in the process.  He points to the opportunity to coach each of his sons in both sports as one of the great joys of his life.  He also has assisted in coaching travel baseball and AAU basketball.

His hobbies include Clemson sports, Braves baseball and reading.  He is an avid history buff.  He was an Eagle Scout.
