Juror Information

Jury Summons: If you are drawn for jury duty, you will receive a summons, which includes an information card that you must complete, sign and return. There will be an accompanying letter with instructions that will assist you. Please read that letter and all other material completely. Your cooperation in providing all the information requested is necessary. Please pay special attention to correcting your address if that on the summons is incorrect.

How Jurors Are Selected: Jurors are selected from a list of county residents who are registered voters, licensed drivers, or holders of state issued photo I.D. cards. All such names are loaded into a computer database. At the appropriate time, three jury commissioners enter their private codes into a computer, which randomly draws from the list for a particular term of court. Those drawn are mailed a jury summons as outlined above. A list of those who do not respond is provided to the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office to follow up in person.

How Are Jurors Paid? A juror is paid $25.00 per day for each day that he or she comes to court. Checks are mailed within a few days after your jury service ends. Also sent to you is a statement for your employer, which details the days you served and how much you were paid.
