Dorchester County, located in the Charleston metropolitan area, provides low country charm and small-town comfort. The surrounding rivers, inlets, and creeks offer excellent opportunities for fishing, sailing, and water-skiing. The Francis Beidler forest offers a beautiful wildlife preserve with canoeing and a boardwalk through the forest. A wide variety of cultural events such as concerts, Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, Charleston Symphony and many golf competitions occur throughout the year.

Dorchester County is located between the capital city,Columbia (85 miles) and the historic city, Charleston (30 miles).

The county seat, St. George, is centrally located between I-26 and I-95, which provides great economy for the upper part of the county. The largest city in the county is Summerville, which is only 15 miles from the Charleston international airport. For general aviation, the county has airports in Summerville and St. George. Easily accessed rail transportation is provided by Norfolk-Southern which is a great attribute to the county’s prospective industrial clients. Rail service bisects the county as it connects to the Port of Charleston. This county is very accessible by planes, trains, or automobiles.
