Jasper County is the southern most county in the State of South Carolina. The County consists of a land area of 662 square miles, which is surrounded by Hampton and Colleton Counties to the north, Beaufort County to the east, Effingham County, Georgia to the west and Chatham County, Georgia to the south. The county is intertwined with both salt and fresh water rivers and abundant salt marshes. The 2000 census count for Jasper County’s population was 20,678, a 33.5% increase from 1990 when the county had 15,487 citizens.
