About Court Reporters

Court reporters are responsible for capturing the official record of courtroom proceedings. South Carolina court reporters use either stenotype or steno mask (also known as voice writing) equipment to capture the proceedings in court. Both methods require the court reporter to also utilize digital audio backup recorders. In addition to their work inside the courtroom, court reporters produce transcripts outside of court, which supplements their annual salaries.

Official Court Reporter Positions in South Carolina

We are currently seeking qualified applicants to fill court reporter positions in South Carolina courts. Successful candidates should meet one of two requirement categories:

1. High school diploma and degree in court reporting from an approved court reporting program OR
2. High school diploma and verified credentials as a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) from the National Court Reporters Association or Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) from the National Verbatim Reporting Association.

Court reporting experience is required. Applicants should have thorough knowledge of hearing procedures and transcript production.
