Judge Thomas Henry White, IV

Thomas Henry White IV was born in Seneca, SC, the son of W. Carlisle White, Jr. and Gertrude Henry White. Six weeks after his birth, his father’s career with the Soil Conservation Service of the USDA relocated the family to St. Matthews, SC. Judge White attended kindergarten through 3rd grade in the public schools of St. Matthews, SC. Just prior to entering the 4th grade, the family moved to Union, SC, where Judge White attended the public schools of Union County until his graduation from Union High School in 1975. He attended Clemson University and obtained a B.A. with High Honor in 1979. He entered the University of South Carolina School of Law in the fall of 1980 and received his J.D. in 1983. Judge White was in the private practice of law in Union, SC from 1983 until his election to the bench in February, 2014.

Professional associations: S.C. Association for Justice, S.C. Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (Served as a member of the Board of Directors and as President of the organization).

Community Involvement: Board of Directors, Union County United Way; President, Union County United Way; Board of Directors, Union County Literacy Association; Legal Counsel for Union County Habitat for Humanity; Board of Directors, Union County Disabilities and Special Needs Board

Church Involvement: Member, First Presbyterian Church, Union, SC. Elder and Deacon, First Presbyterian Church, Union, SC; Moderator, Providence Presbytery; Commissioner to Presbyterian Church USA General Assembly

Family: Married December 18, 1982 to Ann Brueckner (White). Two daughters, Kelsey Ann White of Chapel Hill, NC and Caitlin Thomas White of Decatur, GA
