Judicial Automation Project - Network Infrastructure

Judicial Automation Project - Network Infrastructure

The Network Infrastructure Project will provide every level of court with a high speed communications link to the Judicial Department and the Internet. The transformation of the South Carolina Courts into an electronic business is predicated on reliable network communications to access information across the Judicial Branch. The vision is to leverage the power of the Internet as an enterprise network to allow every level of court an opportunity to securely access judicial applications and other online resources. The Judicial Department is developing a partnership with the 46 county governments across the state in order to realize this network vision as well as work closely with other state agencies that are currently using their own extensive communications networks.

As of August 2003, 43 of the 46 main county courthouses in the state have reliable, high-speed network connectivity. Efforts are in progress to have the remaining three main county courthouses equipped with a reliable, high-speed network telecommunications circuit by the end of calendar 2003. In addition, efforts are also now underway to get all of the judicial facilities and personnel (located in facilities outside of the main county courthouse) equipped with this connectivity. Wiring guidelines have been developed and are being followed to provide a level of consistency across the state in the courtrooms and judicial offices.

A SCJD data center has been established under this initiative.
