M. Anderson Griffith was born in 1958 in Charleston County.  He is the son of Ernest Carroll Griffith and Marian A. Griffith.  Judge Griffith is married to Anne G. Griffith, and they have two children.

Judge Griffith received his B. S. degree in 1981 from the University of South Carolina.  He received his J. D. degree in 1988 from the University of South Carolina.  He was in private practice in Aiken County from 1988-2011 until his appointment.  During that time he served as a Municipal Judge for the Town of Wagener and as the municipal attorney for the Town of Jackson and the City of New Ellenton.
