26576 - Brannon v. The Palmetto Bank

After a careful review of the record and briefs, the Court has determined that the writ of certiorari should be dismissed as improvidently granted.

1-12-2009 - Opinions

26577 - State v. Douglas

The issues on certiorari are whether a witness was properly qualified as an expert in the field of forensic interviewing, and whether the witness' testimony was harmless.

26578 - Ross Marine, LLC v. Query, Sautter, & Gliserman, LLC

The court affirmed an order dismissing this suit citing the doctrine of collateral estoppel.

26579 - South Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company v. Durham

In this case, the Court reversed the order of the trial court finding coverage of a loss resulting when Respondents' swimming pool

26580 - State v. Snowdon

The issue on certiorari is whether the Court of Appeals properly affirmed the trial court's ruling that Snowdon's guilty plea to breach of the peace prevented him from litigating the legality of his arrest, and the search incident to that arrest.

26581 - State v. Bickham

In this case, the Court affirmed the decision of the plea judge denying Appellant's motion to withdraw his Alford plea.

26582 - State v. Mercer

The Court affirmed the imposition of the death penalty.

1-12-2009 - Orders

ORDER - In the Matter of William H. Jordan
This order places William H. Jordan on interim suspension and appoints J. Sidney Boone, Jr. to protect the interests of Mr. Jordan's clients.
ORDER - In the Matter of Donald Loren Smith
This is an order reinstating a lawyer to the practice of law.
1-20-2009 - Opinions

26583 - Curtis v. Blake

The issue on certiorari is whether the Court of Appeals properly dismissed Petitioner's appeal for failure to timely serve a motion for new trial.

26584 - Johnson v. Sonoco

In the underlying workers' compensation case, the single commissioner awarded benefits; the commission reversed; and the circuit court reinstated the single commissioner's order. On appeal, Sonoco argued the appeal stayed the weekly payments of the award. This Court held that the payments were not stayed and interest began to accrue following the circuit court's order.

26585 - McGill v. Moore

In this case, the Court affirms the judgment of the master-in-equity and hold that the contracts for the sale of land cannot be enforced by the purchaser.

26586 - Windham v. Riddle

This Court granted the Riddles' petition for a writ of certiorari to review the Court of Appeals' decision in Windham v. Riddle, 370 S.C. 415, 635 S.E.2d 558 (Ct. App. 2006). We affirm that decision.

26587 - Hancock v. Mid-South Management Co., Inc.

26588 - Hipp v. South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles

In this case, the Supreme Court affirmed the order of the circuit court enjoining the SCDMV from suspending Respondent's driver's license as a result of his 1993 Georgia conviction for DUI.

26589 - McCullar v. The Estate of Dr. William Cox Campbell

The Court reversed a decsion by the Court of Appeals, holding that an action purportedly commenced against a nonexistent defendant is a nullity.

26590 - Sanders v. MeadWestvaco Corporation

The Court dismissed the writ of certiorari, finding it improvidently granted.
