Marriage Licenses

To the full extent permitted by the Constitution, the Probate Court has exclusive original jurisdiction over all subject matter related to the issuance of marriage licenses; record, index, and dispose of copies of marriage certificates; and issue certified copies of the license and certificates. It is unlawful for any persons to contract matrimony, i.e. marry, within this State without first obtaining a marriage license from the Probate Court.

Marriage Licenses may be applied for at the Probate Court between the hours of 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Both parties must be present to apply for a Marriage License. If you are over the age of eighteen (18) you must bring two forms of identification. The first form of identification you both are required to bring is your Social Security Card or Resident Alien Card. The second form of identification shall be one of the following: Driver's License,Highway Department Identification,Certified Copy of your Birth Certificate,Military Identification or Passport. If persons who are applying have been divorced within the last six (6) months, they will need to bring a copy of their divorce decree.

If either party is between the ages of sixteen (16) and eighteen (18) you must bring a Certified Copy of your Long Form Birth Certificate issued by the State and a parent or guardian must accompany the minor and give consent. The parent will need to present a picture identification. If the parents of the minor are divorced, a certified copy of a court order will need to be presented showing legal custody.

Only ministers of the Gospel or accepted Jewish rabbis and officers authorized to administer oaths in this State are authorized to administer a marriage ceremony in this State.

Marriage Licenses are public record and are open to the public during regular business hours from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
