Marlboro County is located in the northeast section of South Carolina
between Dillon and Chesterfield counties on the North Carolina border.
It is most recognized for its manmade lake, built in 1951, named Lake
Paul Wallace after the late Senator Paul Wallace.

1989, a state prison was built and in the year 2002 a federal prison
is in the process of being built.
