Due to the forecasted snow accumulation accompanied by ice throughout most of South Carolina, I am directing that the following counties (and municipalities contained therein) close court operations on Tuesday, January 28, 2014:
Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Berkeley, Calhoun, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Florence, Greenwood, Hampton, Horry, Jasper, Kershaw, Lancaster, Laurens, Lee, Lexington, Marion, Marlboro, McCormick, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Sumter, Union, Williamsburg.
The following counties (and the municipalities contained therein) shall follow the same winter weather hazard decisions made by the county government officials on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 where the Judicial Department Offices are located.
Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Georgetown.
The following counties (and municipalities contained therein) shall be open Tuesday, January 28, 2014, during normal business hours unless winter weather hazard decisions are made by county government officials where the Judicial Department Offices are located:
Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, York.
Unless I issue a new directive by 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, January 28, 2014, I ask that you follow the same schedules for court closure and open courts on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, as outlined above. Directives will be issued by e-mail and posted on our website at www.sccourts.org. If hazardous weather conditions continue beyond Wednesday, January 29, 2014, consult the Court website.
In regards to bond hearings, in those counties that are to be closed Tuesday, January 28, 2014 and Wednesday, January 29, 2014 (if determined), a minimum of one bond hearing daily should be conducted if at all possible. In those counties following local officials’ determinations, if at all possible, at least one bond hearing should be conducted. In the remaining counties, you should adhere to your normal bonding schedule. In all three cases, assistance from law enforcement would prove immensely helpful. I would ask that you distribute this document to your local law enforcement officials.
