On Wednesday, June 18, 2014, the Court of Appeals surprised Judge Danny Pieper by arranging a small retirement luncheon to say farewell.  Governor Nikki R. Haley awarded Judge Pieper the Order of the Palmetto, which Judge Kristi Harrington presented to Judge Pieper at the luncheon. 

The Order of the Palmetto is the state's highest civilian honor and is awarded for extraordinary lifetime achievement and service to the state and nation.  Among those nominating Judge Pieper for the award were all of the judges of the Court of Appeals.
