Born in 1949, in Anderson, South Carolina, the youngest of the four children of Harris and Caroline Bartlett Edwards. He attended the public schools of Anderson, graduating from T .L. Hanna High School in 1967 after which he entered Presbyterian College where he played varsity football (1967-69), was a member of Blue Key, and served as Student Government President. He completed his undergraduate education at PC with a BA in History under Dr. Charles Coker in 1971 and simultaneously received his commission as a Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army Transportation Corps. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army from October, 1971 until July, 1973 at which time he entered law school at the University of South Carolina. Judge Edwards was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in November, 1976; the Montana Bar in October, 1977; and is admitted to practice in the Federal District Courts of South Carolina and Montana and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Court.
After completing his legal education in South Carolina, he moved to Helena, Montana and served with Volunteers In Service to America (VISTA) as an attorney with Montana Legal Services from 1976-77 after which he worked with the general practice firm of French and Grainey in Ronan. He returned to South Carolina in 1979 and worked as an Assistant Attorney General under Attorney General Dan McLeod from 1979 until 1982. He then came back to the Upcountry of South Carolina to work with the firm of Larry C. Brandt, P.A., Walhalla, and as part-time Assistant Solicitor for Oconee County under Solicitor George Ducworth. He became a full-time Deputy Solicitor in 1986. He is a graduate of the National College of District Attorneys' Career Prosecutor Course (1985) and served as a Faculty Advisor for the Career Prosecutor Course (1986). He was elected to the Family Court bench in 1991 and has served continuously since that time being ably assisted by his administrative assistant, Marsha Holland.
Judge Edwards is proudest, however,
to be the father of Will, Caroline, and Ben Edwards. He is currently a member
of Young Memorial Church of Anderson (ARP). He has served with the United Way
of Oconee County, the Walhalla Lions Club, the Tenth Circuit Governor's Youth
Council, and the Anderson Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Advisory Board.
He is also a member of the Alumni Board of Presbyterian College and the Scotsman
Club. He enjoys the out-of-doors; especially his attempts at catching trout
on a dry fly in the Blue Ridge Mountains and playing tennis.
