Passing of Retired Chief Justice Ernest A. Finney, Jr.

Ernest A. Finney, Jr., civil rights giant and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2017.  Retired Chief Justice Finney served the people of his adopted state of South Carolina for more than sixty years as a teacher, a lawyer, a legislator, and a judge.  In every aspect of his life, retired Chief Justice Finney led by example, doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with his God.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the James & Dorothy Z. Elmore Chapel, Claflin University, 400 Magnolia Street, Orangeburg, South Carolina.  A public viewing for Retired Chief Justice Finney will take place at the Supreme Court Building in Columbia on Thursday, December 7, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Additional information about visitation and other events relating to the passing of Retired Chief Justice Finney, along with the obituary, are available at  www.palmermemorialchapel.com/obituaries/Chief-Justice-Ernest-Finney/#!/Obituary
