Chief Justice Jean H. Toal Sworn In |
A swearing-in ceremony for Chief Justice Jean Hoefer Toal was held June 9, 2004 at the South Carolina Supreme Court. Supreme Court Justice James E. Moore administered the oath of office. Justice Toal was elected to a 10-year term which begins July 31, 2004.
Justice Toal is the first and only woman to serve as a Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. She is also the first native Columbian and first Roman Catholic to serve on South Carolina�s highest court.
Congratulations to Justice Toal on this honor. The SC Judicial Department can look forward to her continued leadership.
