Re: Mandatory Criminal Domestic Violence Training

O R D E R

Pursuant to Act No. 166 of 2005, magistrates and municipal judges are required to receive criminal domestic violence training. In order to fulfill the requirement, magistrates were required by Order of the Chief Justice to attend the criminal domestic violence portion of the 2005 Magistrates Mandatory School. Municipal judges were not in attendance at that school and have not received mandatory criminal domestic violence training. Therefore, the judges of the magistrate and municipal courts of South Carolina being a part of the uniform statewide judicial system and pursuant to the provisions of Article V, Section 4, South Carolina Constitution,

IT IS ORDERED that, during the calendar year 2006, all municipal judges must attend at least one of the seminars offered by the S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Program or the S.C. Rural Domestic Violence Program of the Office of the Attorney General. A list of dates and locations of those programs is attached and made a part of this Order. Any magistrate who was granted an excuse from the November 4, 2005 Magistrates Mandatory School must attend at least one of the listed criminal domestic violence seminars as well. Any magistrate who serves as a municipal judge who attended the November 4, 2005 Magistrates Mandatory School is not required to attend an additional program pursuant to this Order.

This order is effective immediately and remains in effect unless amended or revoked by further order of the Chief Justice.
