Chief Justice Toal addresses the S.C. Judiciary

For the Good of the Order

On Thursday, August 24, Chief Justice Jean H. Toal addressed members of South Carolina's Judiciary at the 2006 Judicial Conference.

Justice Toal's comments included updates on state court funding, caseload statistics, sentencing reform, court security, a progress report on technology and a public-privacy project scheduled to begin in November of 2006.

In order to showcase new technology for judges, Justice Toal's remarks were captured by one of the state's premier real time court reporters - Kathy Richardson.

Ms. Richardson used real-time court reporting software that translates stenographic symbols into English. As Ms. Richardson keyed the stenographic symbols, the software translated and displayed the text of Justice Toal's speech on a projected computer screen for the judges to see.
