RULE 508
COURT REPORTERS

Court reporters shall report to the Office of Court Administration the gross income from fees they collected under Rule 607(h), SCACR, during the preceding quarter on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 each year.

Upon failure of the court reporter to file such reports within ten days from the due date, the court reporter shall forfeit right to salary until such time as the reports are made.

The court reporter of the Judicial Department is a fulltime employee and is not allowed to accept outside employment as a reporter. Provided, however, that the Office of Court Administration may grant permission to any stenotype court reporter to accept outside employment as a reporter if the reporter has acquired computer-aided transcription equipment which is acceptable to the Office of Court Administration. The Office of Court Administration may also grant permission to stenotype reporters to associate with other persons in business ventures if, in the judgment of the Office of Court Administration, such arrangements will promote the use of computer-aided transcription equipment. The Office of Court Administration, as a condition of granting permission to a stenotype reporter to accept outside employment, may require financial reports and workload reports from reporters engaged in the operation of computer-aided transcription equipment. The Office of Court Administration, as a further condition of granting permission to a stenotype reporter to accept outside employment, may regulate the extent of outside employment accepted by a reporter. The fees charged by reporters for work performed outside of the Judicial Department shall not be regulated by the Judicial Department. The official work of a reporter within the Judicial Department shall receive priority over outside employment engaged in by reporters.
