Jacklyn Donevant brought an action against the Town of Surfside Beach for wrongful termination. She claimed Surfside's town administrator fired her for refusing to violate the building code. The trial court denied Surfside's directed verdict motion, and the jury returned a verdict for Donevant. The court of appeals affirmed the trial court's decision in Donevant v. Town of Surfside Beach, 414 S.C. 396, 778 S.E.2d 320 (Ct. App. 2015). Surfside petitioned for a writ of certiorari, which the Court granted.
